Ed's Daily Blog - Day 11

Updated: Sep 11, 2025

Day 11: Tuesday, September 10, 2025. Svenborg, Denmark.

Our lovely hosts Svend and Carina Andersen have been so kind and welcoming during our stay in Svenborg.  They have taken us on tours of the beautiful town of Svenborg and even a boat ride to a nearby island to enjoy the history and quaintness of the historic town of Aero, Denmark.  This evening, we enjoyed dinner and company of the Saints Joeregens Rotary Club of Svenborg, Denmark where Peter and I gave a presentation on Circle The Atlantic: Flight To End Polio.  The presentation went well and received many positive comments on our historic flight around the world.  I received many compliments on my achievement of being the oldest pilot in history to fly a plane across the Atlantic.  Tomorrow, Peter and I are in the air again to meet up with Rotarians in Caen, France.  The time is going fast, and Peter and I are enjoying all the opportunities we find to share the story of polio and the efforts of Rotary International to End Polio Now.  Do you know that in 1985, when Rotary started its polio eradication program PolioPlus, polio paralyzed 1,000 children every day?  Today, thanks to the power of vaccines and decades of global collaboration, the number of children paralyzed by wild polio has fallen by 99.9%.  Join the effort to eradicate polio once and for all.  Donate on FlightToEndPolio.com where 100% of the monies raised go to fight polio.  Peter, John, and I are paying 100% of all the expenses of our flight.

Tomorrow we are flying off again to join Rotarians in Caen, France.  Be sure to follow us on our journey to help Rotary International to End Polio Now.

More from Ed about Day 11 and into Day 12:

We had a wonderful reception last night with 60 Rotarians. Peter gave great presentation about our mission to eradicate polio and why it so important. After our presentation, the audience was very interested in specifics about our plane, fuel capacity, range, and how many hours would our longest leg be, how many hours could we stay in the air? After our presentation back to Sven Anderson’s home arrived around 10 PM. Our friend and aviation meteorologist Steve Pellettiere called around 10:30 PM and gave us a briefing for today’s WX. No significant weather but we would be in clouds for a few hours. Steve gave us an updated briefing this morning 4:00 AM eastern time. Our routing was not direct. We had to circumnavigate Amsterdam’s airspace which added an hour and a half to our flight which now became over 4 hrs. to CAEN France, Normandy.

Our new total time enroute is 5:20 hrs. We have about another 3 hrs flying time to destination Caen,France

We are now over Dusseldorf,Germany at 8,000 ft. Clear skies 20 kt. headwind.
