News release from City Council - City of Cascais, Portugal

Thank you to Roberto Carvalho, a Rotarian from Portugal, who has provided these photos and translation of the City of Cascais, Portugal news release.

News released by Cascais City Council upon arrival in Cascais, and welcomed by the President of the Rotary Club Cascais Estoril and two past governors and other colleagues:

Two American Rotary pilots arrived in Cascais today. Over the course of 37 days, Peter Teahen and Ed Galkin will travel 8,800 nautical miles and carry out various fundraising campaigns as part of the 2nd edition of Flight To End Polio - Circle The Atlantic. The initiative is part of the global campaign to eradicate polio worldwide, organized by Rotary International in partnership with the World Health Organization, UNICEF, and the Gates Foundation. It should be noted that the eradication of polio has suffered a setback with the recent wars in Ukraine and, more recently, in Palestine, with new cases emerging in addition to those already existing in Afghanistan and Pakistan, countries where transmission of the wild virus continues. The reception in Cascais on September 19 was attended by Rita Freitas, president of the Rotary Club of Cascais-Estoril, João Figueiredo, president of the Portuguese section of the International Fellowship of Flying Rotarians (IFFR Portugal), and fellow members Vítor Cordeiro and Roberto Carvalho. After this stopover of a few days in Cascais, these two pilots will head to the Azores before crossing the Atlantic to Portland, Maine, with a stopover in St. Johns, Newfoundland. Have a good trip.
